Copperas Cove Police & Texas Rangers Investigating Death Of Man In Custody
The Copperas Cove Police Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a man taken into police custody.
According to a press release from Sgt. Lester Nace, Justin Smith-Washington was arrested without incident in the 900 Block of Mary Street on April 16th for possession of a controlled substance and was transported to the Copperas Cove Police Department to be processed into jail.
Upon arrival, Washington was found lethargic and going in and out of consciousness. EMS transported him to Metroplex Hospital in Killeen where he later died. Justin’s remains were transported to Dallas for an autopsy.
The Copperas Cove Criminal Investigations Division and Texas Rangers are in the early stages of the investigation and will release information as it becomes available.
