A student at Martin Walker Elementary School in Copperas Cove was detained Monday after assaulting a teacher late last week.

Our news partner KWTX-TV reports that a 10-year-old is now in the custody of juvenile probation authorities after attacking a teacher with a pencil. The incident occurred Friday shortly before 11 a.m. Police have not said if the teacher was injured.

This is the second time in less than a month that a local child has attacked someone with a pencil at a Central Texas school. On March 30, 17-year-old Jacob Ayers of Cameron stabbed a fellow student in the abdomen at C.H. Yoe High School, then fled the scene. The school was placed on lockdown after the attack, and Ayers was on the run from police for several hours before turning himself in. The victim's injuries were non-life threatening.
