Columbus Short Leaves ABC’s ‘Scandal’
Next season, there is going to be one less employee at the offices of Olivia Pope & Associates: actor Columbus Short has released a statement to media outlets stating that he will not be returning to ABC's hit series 'Scandal' amidst a scandal of his own.
Short says in a statement to PEOPLE: "At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I've called home for three years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today."
"Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas," he continues. "I wish nothing but the best for [series creator] Shonda [Rhimes], Kerry [Washington] and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful."
The 31-year-old actor has been battling personal issues off the screen this year, including attacking a man at a restaurant and threatening his own wife, Tuere Short, with a knife. He's been charged with a felony for the restaurant incident and his wife, who has filed for divorce, has obtained a restraining order against Short. Tuere Short will be requesting full custody of their 2-year-old daughter.
Luckily for 'Scandal' writers, it won't take much to write the character of Harrison Wright out of the show. ('Scandal' season three finale spoiler alert) At the end of the finale for season three, we see Harrison uncovering the truth about Olivia Pope's dad, Rowan Pope (Joe Morton). Rowan, along with his associate Tom (Brian Letscher), hold Harrison at gunpoint and his fate is left uncertain as the episode ends. Well, I think we can guess what will happen from there.
'Scandal' fans aka "gladiators," are you going to miss seeing Columbus Short on the show?
