College For Kids Offers Summer Classes

The Lampasas County High Education Center will be offering classes through the College For Kids program this summer. Classes offered include first aid, babysitting, French, science, sewing, and photography. This year, career-related classes were added.
Administrative assistant Crystal Marez said that a number of career choice classes were being offered, some including field trips, in order to allow kids to see what professionals such as nurses and firefighters do while on the job. These classes offer more interaction than previous options, which focused on the roles math and science played in various occupations.
The Lampasas Fire Department staff will be conducting the first Junior Firefighters Academy. The course consists of two four-hour classes addressing topics such as fire prevention and the chemistry behind fires. A trip to the fire station will be included.
Other classes include Preview of Nursing, American Red Cross Basic Aid Training, Fun Foods for Kids, and Mad Science Jr.
