When Childish Gambino's mixtape STN MTN arrived in October last year, hip-hop heads were aware it was coming but they didn't know when the sonic bomb would drop. To the surprise of many, the actor-turned-rapper delivered a solid effort -- even he's aware of his critics. His legion of supporters turned their praise of the tape into votes, which landed him Mixtape of the Year in the 2015 The Boombox Fan Choice Awards.

Joining forces with DJ Drama for a Gangsta Grillz edition of the project, Childish crafted 11 tracks featuring his witty rhymes and sing-song delivery. On "Money Baby," the 31-year-old boasts about his bedroom exploits with his lady while he spits about his achievements and the haters over Timbaland and Magoo's classic 2001 "All Y'All." The tape pays homage to his childhood home in Atlanta, proving his southern roots in rap run deep even if he doesn't rock grills or sip lean.

The rhymer had some tough competition in the category, beating nine other nominees with just 23 percent of the fans' vote. Wiz Khalifa's 28 Grams, Migos' No Label II, Lil Bibby's Free Crack 2 and Future's Monster were just some of the lauded tapes up for the win.

Take a look at the percentage breakdown in the Mixtape of the Year category below to see how Childish Gambino fared compared to the rest.
