A child handling a horse happens everyday around the world, but alas, sometimes nature chooses to remind us of the power of these animals.

KWTX is reporting that 10-year-old Emmie Schneider died at her family's home Monday night after being kicked by a horse.

The home was on Rock Creek Road near Bosqueville. The girl, her 6-year-old brother, and her mother were working their horses. The horse the young girl was leading riled and kick her in the face.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said Tuesday that the force of the kick broke the girls neck. Her mother and paramedics performed CPR, but revival efforts were unsuccessful.

Emmie was as 5th grader at Bosqueville Elementary School. Counselors were on hand Tuesday morning for her class.
