A carjacker is behind bars after leading Temple police in a high speed pursuit.

Temple officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 500 block of South 14th Street shortly after 10:15 AM Thursday. The victim told them he was driving in the area when he stopped to talk to an acquaintance., who pulled a gun on him. The two fought for control of the gun, but the suspect was able to recover it. The victim fled, leaving his vehicle behind. The suspect then sped away with the vehicle.

As police were interviewing the victim, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper reported a vehicle matching a description of the victim's speeding along East HK Dodgen Loop and Highway 53. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away. He was later stopped and apprehended by DPS and assisting agencies.

The suspect was taken to the Temple Police Department for questioning and may be charged with aggravated robbery. The victim's vehicle was recovered with significant damage.
