It's one thing to see footage and images of the wildfires raging across California, but when you superimpose their area over Central Texas towns, the horrific extent of the devastation really comes into focus.

Jeremia Kimelman and Joe Murphy with NBC News created an interactive map that allows you to select one of the three California wildfires - 'Camp Fire', 'Woolsey Fire', and 'Hill Fire' -  to see how its size compares to your home town.

Our first comparison was 'Camp Fire' to Temple, and the result was nothing short of terrifying. If that fire were raging here and centered between Temple and Belton, both towns and much of the surrounding area would be totally engulfed in flames.

"The Camp was 201 square miles as of Tuesday, Nov. 13," a message returned by the map reads. "That’s 3.1 times the size of Temple’s 65 land square miles."

The same fire centered between Harker Heights and Killeen would see both towns and much of Fort Hood in flames.

"The Camp was 201 square miles as of Tuesday, Nov. 13. That’s 5.7 times the size of Killeen’s 35 land square miles."

The 'Woolsey Fire', while not quite as large as 'Camp', is equally terrifying. Below are maps centered between Temple and Belton and Killeen and Harker Heights.

'Hill Fire' is the smallest of the three, but would be absolutely terrifying if it was blazing here in Central Texas. As you can see in the maps below, it would cover the entire route between Temple and Belton and much of Killeen.

Imagining fires of this scale raging across Central Texas really puts things into perspective and conveys a clearer idea of just what it is our fellow Americans are going through out in California.

Data from the USDA Forest Service indicates hundreds of thousands of acres have burned as a result of the 'Camp Fire'.

Texas has joined other states in an outpouring of support. Earlier this week, Governor Greg Abbott announced that 200 Texas firefighters, 55 engines, and teams from the Texas Forest Service and Texas A&M were headed out west to help.

The causes of the three fires have not yet been determined. According to CBS News, the plaintiffs in a lawsuit recently filed against San Francisco-based Pacific Gas & Electric claim the company is responsible for the 'Camp Fire' allegedly failing to inspect and properly maintain its power lines.

CBS News reports that at least 48 people have died as a result of 'Camp', bringing the death toll associated with all three fires to 50. Around 100 people are missing, and dozens are considered unaccounted for.

Please continue to keep those impacted by these fires and the teams working to save lives in your prayers.
