Black Music Month: Brandy & Monica Top Charts With "The Boy Is Mine"

We celebrate Black Music everyday here on Kiss-FM and June has been designated "Black Music Month" and we look back at some of the greatest music ever!

On this day (June 6th), Brandy and Monica were both at the top of their game and some even thought the two were feuding. But the duo combined to kill that noise and released the smash hit "The Boy Is Mine" which landed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts this week in 1998.

When asked about the song in a 2015 interview with Huff Post Live Monica let it be known that there was never any animosity between the two.

“It started off as brilliant marketing, and people started creating these skits, and then our fans divided, and it became this real thing,” she admitted. “But now as us being adults, it doesn’t exist. Brandy makes amazing music, so why would I tell a fan of mine that you can’t support her? It’s really frustrating. I am a huge supporter of everyone in the business, especially her.” - Monica to Huff Post Live

Whatever the "strategy" it worked and "The Boy Is Mine" remains one of the best "girl" anthems of all-time!
