Beyonce I’m a ‘Modern-Day Feminist’
Beyonce has been taking some heat over her declaration to "Bow down b----es," since she is always espousing how women need to stick together. You know, all the single ladies have to be girls that run the world. Even though Bey has earned some flack as of late, also for naming her upcoming trek the Mrs. Carter World Tour, Blue Ivy's mom called herself a "modern-day feminist" in her first ever Vogue U.K. cover story.
Bey wears a stylistically mismatched outfit of a casual, striped, nautical crop top with a glittery, more fashionable, sequined blue pencil skirt paired with wild mane of curls on the cover. In the accompanying story, she proclaims, "I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman."
Bey affirmed, "I do believe in equality, and that we have a way to go and it’s something that’s pushed aside and something that we have been conditioned to accept."
Bey could lead the charge on this front! Girls run this motha...
Also, the fact that she loves being a female does not mean she can't love being Mrs. Carter and Jay-Z's wife at the same time. One thing does not preclude the other, in Bey's beautiful mind, at least.
She said, "I feel like Mrs. Carter is who I am, but more bold and more fearless than I've ever been." So being a wife and someone's missus doesn't hamper her independence, son!
She further elucidated, saying, "It comes from knowing my purpose and really meeting myself once I saw my child. I was like, 'OK, this is what you were born to do'. The purpose of my body became completely different."
That sounds like a woman knowing who she is and what she wants, which is the inherent meaning of feminism.
She is Bey -- hear her roar.
