Belton’s Community Garden Is Ready For Your Hoes
Belton's new community garden is officially plotted and ready for your TLC. 39 plots await your green thumb, provided you live in the 76513.
I didn't do my own garden this year. The frustration of years of toil in the soil was too much to get me back out and gardening. Laziness also played a part, but mostly drought and a lack of success have set me back. The only veggies I've had any luck with have been yellow squash and jalapenos. Tomatoes? Nope. Green beans? Not a chance those shriveled beans would feed my family. Now all I'm left with is a grassless plot in the backyard, overgrown and looking pretty trashy.
For those living within Belton city limits that wish to claim one of the 39 plots available at 100 Park Avenue should contact the Belton Parks & Recreation Office for an application at 401 N. Alexander St. There is no charge for those wishing to claim a plot in the community garden, although Belton residency is required, as is clean-up duties in spring & fall. You must also follow garden rules. This ain't no garden party, after all.
