A shooting that left a man dead near Moffatt Monday afternoon is being investigated as a possible suicide.

Bell County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at 14765 Kuykendall Mountain Rd. around 2:10 p.m. When they arrived, they attempted to make contact with anyone who may be home, but received no response. A witness told deputies a man had left in a blue pickup truck. That man returned to the home as deputies were at the scene.

When officers entered the home, they found 67-year-old Jerry Ingram dead with a gunshot wound to the chest. Ingram’s son, 36-year-old Brian Ingram, was questioned Monday night but later released.

The shooting remained under investigation Tuesday. Deputies say there is a possibility Ingram committed suicide, but will not make such a ruling until the results of a preliminary autopsy are returned.

Deputies were called to the same home Sunday night in response to a domestic disturbance. No arrests were made.
