If you haven't heard from Akon for awhile, don't worry, he's been very busy. While he's currently sitting on his new album called "Stadium", the singer has been working to create sustainable energy for Africa with his Akon Lighting Africa initiative.

Akon's initiative plans to supply solar power to over 600 million Africans who lack electricity on the continent. On May 21st, the R&B singer announced the launch of his "Solar Academy" which would train young African engineers and entrepreneurs how to install and maintain solar power energy systems according to Reuters.

This will also create sustainable jobs for many Africans which will undoubtedly inspire a new wave of creation and innovation in many areas. The academy is slated to open this summer and if you would like more info on Akon's Lighting Africa initiative just click here.
