On June 1, The Flying Vikings hosted an event allowing disabled children to become pilots for a day.
The Flying Vikings are a nonprofit organization in Central Texas. This is the fifth time the event, in which disabled and terminally ill children are taken up in small airplanes and given the opportunity to try the controls for themselves, has been held. The event was hosted at Skylar Field in Killeen and included free food and arts and crafts.
Children flew the planes over Stillhouse Reservoir and the Bell County Expo Center. A trained pilot is present with a separate set of controls for safety.
