20 Years For Drunk Driving Death

Former Killeen resident Eugene Wolfenberger has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum penalty, for killing William Allen Reed in a drunk driving incident three years ago.

Wolfenberger was convicted of intoxicated manslaughter, and was also fined $10,000. He will be eligible for parole in nine years.

Defense lawyers had pushed for probation with required treatment for alcoholism and therapy, citing Wolfenberger's good record when enlisted in the Army. Wolfenberger told the jury on Friday that he needed help for alcoholism and anger management resulting from post-traumatic stress disorder.

After being charged in Reed's death, Wolfenberger was involved in two family violence incidents. The first led to a felony charge, which was later dropped, when Wolfenberger punched a deputy. In the second incident, Wolfenberger fired a sniper rifle while arguing with his wife and allegedly hit her with the butt of the weapon. His bond was revoked following the incident.
